Martha Kapelewski

Martha Kapelewski is the bilingual associate processing archivist at the Special and Area Studies Collections, Smathers Library, University of Florida. Her interests include incunabula books, early printing history of Spanish books and their migration to the colonies, Jesuit books and texts in the colonies, early printed maps, and philosophy. She holds undergraduate degrees in communications and philosophy, an MLIS in library and information science, an MA in philosophy, and a graduate certificate in archives and special collections. Her research project currently focuses on scribes and their signs—small rubric signatures chosen and designed by individual scribes—of colonial Mexico, Cuba, and South America. She is working to create a database of scribes, including tracking their location and movement across the colonies.
