Neogranadina is a Colombian non-profit organization devoted to digitizing the holdings of endangered archives and libraries and developing digital history projects to make the results truly accessible. Neogranadina was established by Juan Cobo Betancourt (assistant professor, University of California, Santa Barbara), Santiago Muñoz Arbeláez (assistant professor, Universidad de los Andes, Bogotá), and Natalie Cobo (external researcher, Max Planck Institute for European Legal History, Frankfurt). It designs and builds custom low-cost document scanners, and makes them available at no cost to institutions that need them. Neogranadina has digitised over a million images in collections around Colombia, from colonial manuscripts to contemporary human rights materials, and has set up the Catálogo Colectivo de Archivos Colombianos, an open multi-repository of archival descriptions open to all Colombian archives, libraries, collectives, and groups holding historical or human rights materials and in need of technical infrastructure and support for managing and publishing their metadata.
